The closing remark of the Conference

Security Council (Day 3)

With great excitement, the last day of TransMUN 2019 swung into full gear. An utter explanation on the UNA-USA procedure was thoroughly introduced by the Dais team owing to the misunderstanding with regard to the voting procedure. Cooperation is still the central core of delegates’ speeches in the general speakers’ list. Followed by the fierce debate is the unmoderated caucus proposed by the delegate of USA to discuss the final amendments toward draft resolution 1.1. Efforts put in by all delegations were recognized by the delegate of the United Kingdom and Kuwait.

Modification or strikes of clause 3 - the demilitarized zone is being widely discussed by all delegations. The definition of peacekeeping troops is also a hot topic being debated. Nonetheless, after yesterday’s discussion, delegates had found that United Nations Peacekeeping force is never a feasible option, considering that classical peacekeeping missions are governed by five principles, one of them being“consent of the parties to the dispute for the establishment of the mission.”

After a multitude of amendments, Draft resolution 1.1 was revised to be more comprehensive. Seeing this, the motion of closure of debate was recognized by the Chair, with the overwhelming majority of 15, draft resolution 1.1 passes. Described by the delegate of China “Exhausting but is definitely something worth doing.”

Crisis was proposed by the Dais team with the topic of “China’s military congregates along the coast of Fujian.” This new topic not only freshens up the conference room but also brought about enthusiasm within delegations. In fact, delegations are soon devoted to their new character. The general speakers’ list of session seven started with the speech given by the delegate of People’s Republic of China, “Communism is the perfect solution to a country and to its people, either we thrive together or we starve together meaning that everything in the world is equally shared. To the delegate of Republic of China, there’s a saying, “If you can't beat them, join them”, we the Republic of China strongly urges the brothers in the Republic of China to come back to their mother country’s embrace.”

To his response, the delegate of the Republic of China answered, “Why China keep on stating that Taiwan is part of its territory is only using historical fact. The problem is if using thorough fact to back up that Taiwan is a part of China then we can also say that the United States of America belongs to Great Britain, this delegate finds it sarcastic that China only uses its economic stance and diplomatic relations to bully Taiwan and other countries.”

During the last session of this crisis, the House automatically divided into two blocs, one with the delegation of PRC, another include the delegate of ROC. The consensus can’t be reached on whether “one China” is referring to, however, the agreement among taking no military enforcement approaches has been taken into consideration, and the debate on the crisis is still continuing.
